Commissioning Services
Building Systems Commissioning is the verification of the performance of a system, and a quality assurance program with a significant amount of field testing both during the initial installation phase and upon completion of construction. Commissioning is essentially a ‘quality assurance’ process for buildings and is intended to verify and document that building systems operate in accordance with the design intent. The results are functional building systems that can be operated and maintained for the useful life of the building.
A large portion of Commissioning occurs in the operating environment so the real value of the HTS team is in the strength of our engineers and field staff. We work co-operatively with the respective teams to ensure that designs are robust, that equipment selection is matched to project needs, that installations are high quality and represent good value, and that operating systems and controls are trimmed and adjusted to maximize reliability and economy. The value of this commissioning approach is that it works equally well whether we are working with the MEP engineer on a new project to adjust a design to facility needs, or if we are reviewing the performance of an existing facility to improve its operations and economics.
Hospital construction warrants the commissioning process and requires commissioning of systems which are unique to hospitals. Hospitals provide for a healing environment and have features that require a unique commissioning process. Many MEP systems are required to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days each year. HTS recommends starting the commissioning process during the design phase, continuing through construction and finishing during the start up of systems operations.
